Poke City
Boston, MA
Poke City opened a second Location in Government Center, downtown Boston. They invited me back for a second mural project after a positive response to the first in Cambridge. I wanted to show of a higher level of rendering to matched the aesthetic of the financial district that the restaurant borders. I felt the high dining atmosphere deserved some higher rendering of the subject.
Most of the work was done during the winter in the middle of Covid. I had access to the unopened building the restaurant was in. The restaurant was empty up until my work was done, so I was able to set the tone for the rest of the furnishing.
The key element that brought this design together was the Navy Blue linework and type. Without it, the palette would be too warm. Poke is a cuisine that comes from islands in the Pacific, and prides itself on quality ingredients. Knowing where ingredients are sourced is a big way people like to keep track of the quality of their food. The blue embodies the ocean where the seafood comes from. Every Poke bowl is filled with color and vibrancy, but the blue is what reminds you of the freshness.
